# Invoice Numbering

The Invoice Numbering settings let you control how invoice numbers are formatted for your space. This is useful when you use Easy Space as your primary billing system and want invoices to match your brand or align with a sequence you started in another tool.

To access these settings, go to **Space Settings → Company & Tax** and click **Invoice Numbering** in the top-right corner of that page.

## Invoice Prefix

Every invoice number starts with a short prefix, followed by the current year and a sequential number — for example, `INV-2026-0001`.

You can replace the default `INV` prefix with anything that identifies your business, such as your company abbreviation or a custom code.

**Rules for the prefix:**

* Letters, numbers, and hyphens only
* Maximum 10 characters
* Automatically converted to uppercase

A **live preview** below the input shows exactly how the next invoice will be numbered as you type.

Click **Save Prefix** to apply the change. All invoices created after saving will use the new prefix. Existing invoices are not affected.

## Next Invoice Number

This setting lets you choose the number that will be assigned to the next invoice generated for the current year.

It is most useful when:

* You are migrating from another billing system and want numbering to continue from where it left off (e.g. you already have 200 invoices, so you set the next number to 201)
* You want to restart the sequence from 1

The page always shows your **current next invoice number** so you know where the sequence stands before making any change.

**To use:**

1. Enter the number you want the next invoice to start from
2. Click **Set Next Number**

> If you enter a number lower than the current sequence, you will see a warning. No duplicate invoice numbers will be created (the year is always part of the number), but there may be visible gaps in your numbering history.

> **Tip:** Setting the next number to **1** effectively resets the sequence to the beginning — no separate reset action is needed.
