# Membership Plan Types

## Understanding Membership Plan Types

When creating a new membership plan, you need to choose between three main types: `Fixed Plan`, `Flex Plan`, and `Recurring Plan`. Understanding the difference is key to setting up plans that fit your space and member needs.

**Fixed Plan**

* Grants members continuous access for a specific duration measured in **Days** (e.g., 30 days, 90 days).
* Can be assigned to one desk resource, or optionally created with **no desks assigned**. When assigned to a desk, this is ideal for dedicated desk plans or memberships granting continuous access to specific zones. When no desks are assigned, this works well for social memberships or community access plans where members are part of the space but don't have assigned seating.
* Access is continuous throughout the plan's duration, subject to the assigned desk's operating hours (if a desk is assigned).
* The price covers the entire duration, regardless of how often the member uses the space.
* **Hourly pass:** When a Fixed Plan is assigned to one desk, you can offer it as an hourly pass instead of a full-day pass. You set the duration in hours (e.g. 2 hours), and members pick a date and start time when they buy. Simple as that.

**Flex Plan**

* Provides members with a specific number of entries or visits to the space (e.g., 10 entries).
* Must be assigned to exactly one desk resource. This allows members flexible access to the assigned desk based on availability.
* Each visit (entry) consumes one entry from the member's allowance.
* The plan duration (e.g., 30 days) still applies, meaning entries must be used within that period.
* Supports three entry types: **Full Day** (members pick any date for full-day access), **Hourly** (members pick a date and start hour, booking lasts for a specified duration), or **Fixed Slot** (members pick a date only, time window is predetermined).
* Perfect for flexible or part-time members who don't need continuous access, or when you want to offer hourly-based memberships.

**Recurring Plan**

* Designed for monthly recurring memberships that automatically renew each calendar month, anchored to the subscription date.
* Billing cycles last one calendar month and cannot be changed. Renewals occur on the same day each month (e.g., if a membership starts on January 15th, it renews on February 15th, March 15th, etc.). Month-end dates are handled correctly (e.g., January 31st renews to February 28th or 29th).
* Automatically creates renewal memberships when the current membership expires. **If your space uses Stripe** and the member paid by card, their card is saved and charged automatically on renewal—no checkout needed. If no saved card exists (e.g., they paid via PayPal or manual method), the renewal starts with a pending payment status and the member must complete payment.
* Can be assigned to zero or one desk resource, similar to Fixed Plans. This makes it suitable for both dedicated desk memberships and social memberships without desk access.
* Ideal for members who want continuous monthly access without manually renewing their membership each month.
* Members see renewal information on their membership cards, showing when their next renewal will occur.
* **Discount carryover:** If a member used a discount code at sign-up, that same discount is applied to every renewal automatically.

## Memberships Without Desk Assignments

Both **Fixed Plan** and **Recurring Plan** membership plans can be created without assigning any desks. This option is useful for:

* **Social Memberships:** Members who are part of your space community but don't need assigned seating
* **Community Access:** Members who want access to events, networking, or other space amenities without desk access
* **Flexible Plans:** Memberships that focus on other benefits like room credits or products rather than desk access

💡 **Important:** Members with Fixed Plan or Recurring Plan memberships that have no desks assigned will appear in your dashboard's "Active Members Today" and "Expiring Soon" sections, but they will **not** be counted in desk occupancy calculations or appear in the desks overview page. This ensures accurate occupancy tracking while still recognizing all active members.

**Key Differences:** The core distinctions lie in the access model and renewal behavior. `Fixed Plan` offers continuous access for a set period measured in days, which can be tied to a specific desk or optionally used for general space access without desk assignment. `Flex Plan` offers a set number of visits to a single assigned desk within a defined timeframe (measured in days), with flexible entry types (Full Day, Hourly, or Fixed Slot). Flex Plans must always have exactly one desk assigned. `Recurring Plan` offers continuous monthly access with automatic renewals on the same calendar day each month, designed specifically for ongoing monthly billing cycles. When Stripe is enabled, members who pay by card can have their card saved for automatic renewal charges. Recurring Plans can have zero or one desk assigned, making them suitable for both dedicated desk and social membership models. Choose the type that best reflects how you want members to access and pay for using your space resources.
